Hi all,
I have small white worms in the bottom of my green terror tanks, seems there was a lot of uneaten food.
I know the easiest thing is vacuming however I don't wanna bother the breeding fish with eggs.
If I take one corydoras catfish from the community tank and put it inside as a cleaner I am sure he will enjoy eating them, then I can put it back again. My green terrors are still juvenile and he won't fit in their mouth, however I heard the become extremely agressive when breeding, does this apply to corydoras as well, will they be instantly killed ?

Small white worms?
Sounds like planaria worms.
Not sure if your loach will eat them....?
Anyone?

I'm fairly certain the corys won't eat planaria. Very few fish find those worms appealing. Also, I wouldn't want to risk the poor cory being attacked. Moving a fish also doesn't exactly stimulate its appetite.

Why not try a 'planaria trap'?

You will need a:

Small plastic bowl with a lid
A small weight (like a stone)
Some fishing line
Bait (anything chunky - like beefheart or shelled prawn or even a compacted wad of slightly soaked fish food  )
A sharp screw driver (to heat up and burn the holes - an awl works too, as does a soldering iron)

1. Take your small plastic container.
2. Heat and punch or drill some tiny holes all over (big enough for the planaria to crawl through). If you have small fish make sure they can't get in.
3. Put a weight inside the container (small stones really do the job here).
4. Tie your fishing line to the top of the container to get it our easily.
5. Insert some sort of bait. (frozen blood worms work too!)
5. Put in the tank, wait...1-2 hours.
6. Take out the catch ...and pour boiling water on them to kill them.

When you take it out, have a cup or bowl ready so the planaria doesn't spill out with the water.

I still think addressing the source is better than doing a stop-gap method like the above, but this will help cut down population while you don't want to vacuum.

Planaria worms are disgusting, since the eggs are inside a jar, I assumed vacuming was safe so I did a 10% water change, the female inside her jar wasn't bothered, the male didn't like this (as usual)
What's the next step ? should repeat vacuming tomnorrow ?

yes, just keep it up. They can be a bit stubborn to get rid of. Did you also reduce feeding?
