Hey everyone! I've been searching around and I think I finally found my aquarium, I'm going to check it out tomorrow and if it looks good I'm going to take it. I just have a few questions regarding the set up and equipment. I think I'm going to go with an Aquaclear 110 (that was reccomended by a fellow aquarist), and a Fluval 406 for filtration. I was wondering if there was any particular heaters anyone would recommend, also with oscars how much gravel would be required for a 90? The other question was about stocking. Initally I was going to go with 1 oscar and some silver dollars, but I've decided against it. I'd rather do 1 oscar and 1 severum, or 1 firemouth. Would adding either of these as a possible tankmate cause any problems? Any help would be greatly appreciated, and if there are any other products, I should look for please let me know.

Thanks in advance, and sorry for the long post, its been awhile since my last aquarium.

I hope all goes well with the new tank!

Amount of gravel is really up to personal preference, but here's a nifty calculator to help you help yourself: www.aqua-calc.com/calculate/gravel-rectangular-solid

Filtration sounds good. As for the heater, a useful rule of thumb is 5 watts per gallon. If you live in a very moderate climate, less might be fine, if it's very cold, (or the tank will be in a very cold space) more might be needed.

1 oscar and 1 severum/firemouth will be just fine, depending on the individual fish. Some oscars don't take to tankmates, no matter what you do. Some firemouths can be just as bad.

Post pictures if/when things are settled!

Thanks for the advice!

I'm thinking a green, I use to have one and I really liked him, but if I saw a gold or red severum I'd probably check one out. Reds aren't dyed are they? If so I wouldnt get one. I'll definitely post Pics once I'm all set up, can't wait!

You can easily spot a dyed fish - if it's a funny partly-chewed up bubble gum colour, dyed. Red severums aren't dyed, no.

I'm really looking forward to pictures!

Thanks I'll keep my eye out. I'm hopefully getting the tank today and then I'll be getting the equipment, and starting the cycling. Hopefully by end of August I'll be ready for fish, and I'll have pics!

Not much to look at yet, I might paint the stand to match my living room better, but other than that its solid. I picked up the whle set up for $100. Better pics soon. Also, the tank doesnt really hang off like that, there was a small peice of wood I removed and now it fits perfectly.
