I'd venture that the high ammonia is exactly the reason your tank won't cycle, so the increased water changes should really help.

I hope you get through this ok, Ciza. Any definite plans on rehoming some fish/a larger tank yet?

I agree with Draco, feed only every other day, and as little as possible.

Hey Guys thanks for the speedy replies got the spare 4ft approx 100L tank set up just waiting for the floating sand to settle before some of the fish move to that one. Also got the API test kit and the readings for the tank were the same as before. The tap water has no ammonia in it and the PH is 7.6. Just so you know this tank they are in currently is approx 200L or 52gal. The 50% water change was just done and treated the new water with prime, do I have to wait after a water change to test again or can I test immediately?

Rocksor: Hopefully there will be a bigger tank soon just have to find one that fits the budget :)
Firestorm8215: There was a 1/3 water change each week.

Thanks Guys for the help :)
WATER CHANGES ARE THE LIFEBLOOD OF THIS HOBBY. IF YOU DON'T BELIEVE SO OR SIMPLY DON'T FEEL LIKE DOING THEM, RE-HOME YOUR FISH, SELL YOUR AQUARIUM & FIND ANOTHER HOBBY, AS YOU WILL FAIL MISERABLY.

That's exactly what I was saying, there have been evidence to support that during fishless cycles ammonia levels 8ppm and up can have an adverse effect of the benificial bacteria. So you really NEED to get to get it down ASAP
