OFL replied to the topic 'Emails go to spam lately' in the forum. There's always the problem with onlinee-mail systems, Hotmail, Yahoo etc. I wouldn't even know where to begin if someone is having a problem like yourself, I think it's just the nature of how these things work with these content management system software packages. Occasionally, people register but don't receive your activation e-mails, these are always online based e-mail systems that cause a problem.

OFL replied to the topic 'The New Look Website' in the forum.Jack, you're not alone. I once had a problem where I couldn't listen to online SDR (Software Defined Radio) on any of the computers in my house, nobody else had a problem, even people coming to my house with their laptops didn't have any problems. Then the time came to renew my security software, I installed the new version and everything started working. You will be amazed what can screw things up sometimes.

OFL replied to the topic 'when should I test the water?' in the forum. You should change water depending on how much ammonia is present. The ammonia that the fish create is needed as food for your beneficial bacteria. However, the ammonia will kill fish if it gets too high, hence water changes to reduce the levels of ammonia. So you should be changing the water once the ammonia rises above 0.25. When you cycle the tank for the first time, you are not trying to reduce the ammonia to as low as you possibly can because this will have an effect on how long the tank take the cycle. You will always need some ammonia present.

OFL replied to the topic 'Bought 2 oscars and fish store gave bad advice!! Need Help soon!!' in the forum.Welcome to our little community. Now I'm not trying to burst your bubble, but do you really think you are ready for a 300 gallon aquarium?
Buying a tank and a fish at the same time is completely wrong. For a start, is going to take you to your three hours to set the tank properly, what do you do with the fish in the meantime? If I was you, I would take the fish straight back, get your tank setup properly and then get a fish.
You should get a water testing kits as well, you need to test for ammonia and nitrite initially, but then you will need to test for nitrate. Make sure you get a pH test kit as well.
I find it astonishing that anyone running a fish store would behave like this with their customers, is absolutely disgusting and you shouldn't be running a shop. What shop is it?

OFL replied to the topic '300 gallon aquarium + sump filter for sale' in the forum. The guy who bought my tank was a bit of a bodybuilder type chap. He was convinced that him and his mate would be able to lift the tank, although I'd told him there was no way on God's earth that was going to happen. Anyway, they turned up on the Saturday morning, just the two of them with a flat back truck.Good job my neighbour was across the road, he got a few lads from the rugby club just down the road to help, like I said, even with six people they really struggled. I think that the new tank I'm going to get some time in awesome won't be too much of a struggle, I think the tank measures something like 36 inches by 18 inches, by 22 inches high, that equates to around 50 gallons I believe. Couple of people should bear to lift that perfectly okay without any problems

Welcome to our little community. I assume you have tested the water for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate pH etc etc? The fact that one Oscar is behaving like this and not the other does suggest that it could be a illness in just the one Oscar. Is the Oscar not eating at all? Unfortunately it could be a case of Hexamita. The reason I say this is because one of the symptoms of the fish will for some strange reason, retreat to a corner of the tank, often near the surface at the back of the aquarium. This the fish continues not to eat then I am afraid there is little you can do for it as medication needs to be ingested. However, let's not condemn the Oscar just yet, please keep an eye on it and see if it well eat. You may find that it has been bullied and is very stressed. Hopefully it may return to normal behaviour. If it's not being picked on.
