i have no idea what this is but it just occurred about 2 days ago. went to the LFS picked up some Melafix but i would really appreciate it if anyone here could properly diagnose what my oscars have. they would lie at the corner of the tank if people were around, so i would creep late at night and spy on them only to find they were acting normally.

the next day (2nd day using Melafix) they appear to be their normal selves (swimming about, excited about feeding time, etc.). however the white stuff still persists. too soon to give a significant update. any help is appreciated!

You should start a new thread about your issue as this is an old thread and people don't often check new posts on these threads. You'll get a better response this way. In you new thread post your water test results for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph (we will need these in order to diagnose the issue). Also tank size, filtration type, water change and filter maintenance schedule, and length of time the tank has been set up. Also additional pics will help.

they make me super paranoid. now i want to do like 10 50% water changes lol ( i would never do that) I had a scare the other day. one of my fish had what looked like a bunch of white spots on his head. In reality, he was hanging out by the bubble wall and just had bubbles on him LOL

lol Don't you hate that? I have dealt with Ich one too many times, so I am so anal about checking my fish for white spots. I hate when I see bubbles on them and think it's Ich again.

As for the pics...that is just so sad. I, too, want to go do like multiple water changes right now.

We have had our Groucho (Tiger O) for over a year now...have watched him grow from 2 inches to pushing 11 inches! LOVE watching him swim around in his little 55 gal world. We also have a fancy goldfish and a black moor in a separate tank. We love our fishies!...[IMG]

Seeing all those pics is traumatizing. What's the best way to avoid disease? Thanks!

Cycle your filters BEFORE adding fish.
Test your water regularly to spot problems before they become life threatening.
Good diet.
Weekly water changes whether you feel like it or not!

If you keep the water in pristine condition the fish will look after themselves :)

What is White Spots? Is that ICK? and if so what is the BEST Way to get rid of it? I just bought a new Oscar and I think he may have it.

Hi thank u for posting these pics and making people aware before its too late.........

Have three questions
1. On the initial pic of the albino O with "Hith"...mine has one small hole above the eye its been two weeks and doing the water change but its still there but there are no new ones so does that mean the water change is helping????????
2. The other is where the "split fin bacterial infection through trauma"....so will the fin go grow back to normal or should i treat the tank with some med????
3. Last question on "hith on a grey fish(courtesy of artemis1)" should there be a medicine given for that kind of situation too.

Ok, there's a difference between HITH, and a sensory pit. If you want a definitive answer, start a new thread and post your pictures.

For the split fin, you treat the bacteria, and once it's gone, the fins will heal up as long as they're not damaged all the way to the base.

Last, there's not really any medication for HITH, best medicine is pristine water and a good diet.
