There would be no way for it to leak to over flow (assuming I'm able to get a complete seal on the tanks underneath) I would in affect just be turning the tanks underneath into 20 or 30 gallon "bulges" in the hose on the way to the sunsun filter

oh... that is brilliant... another seal chamber to contain additional water volume with filter media...
that is acceptable and doable.... i have done it but using sealed plastic drum instead of glass chamber
to avoid accidental glass bursting.

Is it true I never need to "clean" the bio balls? Can I have to many bio balls? Are there other media's that would work too? (Figuring more then one kind would be better) was also thinking about putting a bunch of live plants in one(bought one too see how the fish would react.. They loved it... To death lol) and hmmm plastic container you say? I do have a 55 gal drum in the garage I could add lol

On more thing, not sure if the sunsun is gonna come with a "pre filter" or not I'd like one to keep large debris from entering the "chambers" in my mind it seems easyier for the sunsun to pull water threw them instead of pushing (does it actually make a diff? Idk..)

Yes you can have too many bio balls. You will only develop a given amount of bacteria proportionate to ammonia produced. The colony will only get so big. Prefilter sponge or similar should go on the intake. I always recommend the addition of at least 1 Aquaclear 110 hob to handle mechanical filtration. You can rinse an AC sponge in a couple of minutes, as opposed to the 30-45 mins to open and clean a canister. Imo, optimum cichlid tank filtration is canister/sump for bio and Aquaclears for mechanical. Careful what you put as a prefilter. Must be sterile, no imbedded bleach, adhesives, cleaners etc.

To be honest I was trying to get away from hob filters on this tank, make it less of a headache to build the canopy. If the sunsun don't come with a sponge prefilter, were can I get one?

So I came across this pump, with this in a set up like I've been describing above, could I take the sunsun 304b out completly (and put it on the 75 gal shubunkin/koi tank?
